Equally cryptic and personal

I’ve been meaning to do one of these thingies for a while on my blog. This one comes courtesy of Mitto.

The rules are:
Choose a singer/band/group.
Answer using ONLY titles of songs by that singer/band/group.

Band I chose: Really, it has to be R.E.M.

1 Are you male or female? Animal

2 Describe yourself. World Leader Pretend

3 What do people feel when they’re around you? Just a Touch

4 How would you describe your previous relationship? Bang and Blame

5 Describe your current relationship. Be Mine

6 Where would you want to be now? Ignoreland

7 How do you feel about love? I’m Not Over You

8 What’s your life like? Country Feedback

9 What would you ask for if you had only one wish? Let Me In

10 Say something wise. Walk Unafraid

Your turn.

Epic Fail

Have you ever played a game so often and so completely that even when on the toughest settings you can still walk it? When this happens with a game that I truly love I’m not content with the game not providing a challenge any more, so I inject new challenges into the way that I play.

I’ll restrict myself to using only certain units, deliberately not take the killing move to allow the opponent time to rebuild for a second offensive, or take on battles that I know I’ll lose just to see how long I can last. The following picture is the summary screen from one such losing battle. It’s taken from the excellent game Empire at War, with a Stargate mod applied. (Click the image for a larger version)

Epic Failure!

Now, if you’re not all too familiar with Stargate lore then this won’t mean much to you, but believe me when I tell you that three BC-304s, (The Apollo is a hero unit BC-304) three X-303s and five Puddle Jumpers is not a fleet that you’d want to take against 100+ Goa’uld Ha’tak and a space station. So while I was a little saddened that I lost this battle all my bad feelings were wiped away by just how awesome any battle is where I destroyed 94 of those Ha’tak in 25 minutes.

Yes, I am a massive geek.

Death Star imageGizmodo UK: LEGO Death Star: You Know You Want One

Hells yeah I want one! I was never really much of a Star Wars fan before Lego Star Wars came out for the PC. I’d seen them a few times each, but it just wasn’t the sort of Sci-fi that really grabbed me. Lego, on the other hand, has always been a love of mine. While I no longer have the (literally) buckets of Lego I used to own as a child I always secretly pined to recreate the sprawling citadels of race-tracks, police stations and the like juxtaposed with totally mis-matched roads in utterly unconvincing arrangements. Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones have rekindled this feeling, and while I no longer desire the confused metropolises of old I’d certainly enjoy building an Imperial fleet to assault Hoth, or Tatooine!

We are talking over 3,800 pieces of lovingly crafted plastic designed, not just to recreate Darth’s holiday home, but allow you to recreate 14 key scenes from the movies, from the Trash Compactor Scene to getting electrified in the Emperor’s Throne Room.

Spore’s getting closer

CreaturesI posted a while back about Spore, the creature/universe creation game due out early September. Today sees the release of the Creature Creator, a free trial is available here for both Mac and PC. It’s quite a lot of fun and is a nice way to shave time off of the usually time-consuming aspect of character/creature creation that would delay playing of the actual game when it ships.

[Update]

Videos of people’s creations have started to appear! Check this one out:

Please fix!

Please fix! This picture is becoming my nemesis. Why have I discovered so many geeky online ways to interact with friends and strangers alike at possibly the busiest and most important stage of my academic life so far? Ugh!

More importantly, why do these services keep on breaking on me!? Twitter(rific) I love you but you’re such an ass!
